Abstract

1,160,003. Epoxy resin coating. CIBA Ltd. 30 Nov., 1967 [2 Dec., 1966; 18 Oct., 1967], No. 54521/67. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C3] Wood, metal, e.g. steel, masonry, concrete e.g. pipes, are coated with a composition which comprises epoxy resins cured with a liquid adduct obtained by reacting a liquid polyglycidyl ether with hexamethylenediamine or a hexamethylenediamine in which the polymethylene chain is alkyl substituted and in which the amino groups are linked to primary carbon atoms. The coating composition may be applied by brushing or spraying. A preferred diamine is an isomeric mixture of 1,6 - daimino - 2,4,4 - trimethylhexane and 1,6- diamino-2,2,4-trimethylhexane. Conventional filters, extenders and pigments may be present. In an example a self levelling coating for concrete is prepared from a liquid diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (166.6 parts by wt.), an adduct of a similar epoxy resin with the above isomeric mixture of diamines (58.4 parts), quartz sand (283 parts) and quartz meal (184 parts). It was coated 2 to 3 mm. thick and cured in 1 day at 20‹C (65% relative humidity).
