Abstract
1,159,612. Moisture and pH determination; sampling for gas chromatography. FISONS FERTILIZERS Ltd. 25 July, 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 38111/66. Headings B1L and B1X. [Also in Division G1] A process for measuring the moisture content and pH in ammonium nitrate or ammonium phosphate nitrate melts or concentrated solutions comprises contacting air or other gas with the melt or concentrated solution at a constant elevated temperature, obtaining a sample of the thus contacted air or other gas and analysing the moisture content and ammonia content of the air or other gas by gas chromatography, the analysis being effected by comparing the reading given by the smaple with a known standard. The contacting of the air or other gas with the melt or concentrated solution is suitably effected by passing air or gas from 5 through a porous panel 4 supporting the melt or solution 7 in a container 1, or by passing both gas and melt or solution upwards through a column (Fig. 2 not shown).
