Abstract

1,159,587. Automatic control systems. A.W. SCOTT. Oct. 21, 1966 [Oct. 23, 1965], No. 47415/66. Heading G3R. [Also in Divisions H1 and H5] In a micro-wave generator for an oven (see Groups H1 and H3-H5) in which an electron beam is focused along a path adjacent a slow wave structure with which it interacts, changes in the power output of the tube are counteracted by automatically adjusting the spacing of the electron beam from the slow wave structure. The variation of resistance with temperature of of a thin tungsten wire 141 included in the output lead of the tube unbalances the bridge 140, the resulting output from the bridge being applied across electrodes 147, 148 to deflect a secondary beam constituted either by a separate electron beam passing through the tube, or by an edge of the main beam. The deflection alters the ratio of beam current collected by the two plates 151,152, the resulting variation in potential difference across resistor 155 being applied to main beam deflection electrodes 104,105 to control the spacing of the main beam from the slow wave structure.
