A game device for tumbling articles, such as dice, comprises a tumbling platform adapted to receive such articles, means for vibrating said platform, means including a proximity circuit and sensing means for causing the actuation of the vibrating means in response to the approach of an object towards the sensing means and for maintaining the continued actuation of said vibrating means during the presence of the object. If desired there may be incorporated in the device a resistance-capacitance timing circuit for ensuring actuation of the vibrating means for at least a predetermined time period, the control being activated simultaneously with the actuation of the proximity circuit. In figure 2 the sensing plate 18, in the form of a ring, senses when a hand is brought within critical proximity and the proximity circuit (shown in Fig. 1) is brought into use; current flows through line 30 to motor 64 causing rotation of cam 68 by cam 66 and the platform 54 vibrates and so shakes the dice 56. A long as the participant's hand stays within the operational range of the proximity circuit the dice will continue to mix. A delay feature in the feedback circuit formed by a resistor 32 and capacitor 34 in the proximity circuit ensures that the mixing of the dice continues for at least a predetermined period, e.g. half a second, even if the person's hand is withdrawn before this predetermined period elapses.
