Abstract

1,159,083. Azodyestuffs containing 2-amino- 5 - sulphonic - 8 - hydroxynaphthalene radicals. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 9 Feb., 1968 [13 Feb., 1967], No. 6491/68. Heading C4P. The invention comprises dyestuffs of the general formula wherein R is an aromatio-carbocyclic radical e.g. benzene or naphthalene containing at least one substituent whose atom directly linked with R is a hetero atom or an Sp 3 carbon atom, or R is a heterocyclic radical; R 1 is H or alkyl and Y is H or acyl. The term "Sp 3 carbon atom" means a carbon atom bearing 4 tetrahedral single bonds, and the term "acyl radical" means a radical comprising a carbamyl group, a group XCO or XSO 2 wherein X is an optionallysubstituted aliphatic or carbocyclic radical, and further includes heterocyclic radicals, e.g. triazine and pyrimidine, linked directly to the - N(R 1 )- group through a carbon atom of the heterocyclic ring. The acyl radical may be or bear a reactive group which forms a covalent bond with cellulose or the amide groups of wool. Examples of Y include acetyl, benzoyl, benzene-sulphonyl, cyanuric chloride, 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline - 6 - CO- 2 - methylsulphonyl, 4,5 - dichloro - 6 - methyl pyrimidine-, and tetrachloropyrimidine. The dyes are prepared by coupling diazotized amines RNH 2 with an appropriate naphthalene coupling component or by acylating the naphthalene-2- amino group in the corresponding azo dyestuff with mono- or polyfunctional acylating agents. The dyes give orange and red shades on cellulose, wool, silk and synthetic polyamides and may be after chromed to give black, blue and brown shades.
