Abstract
1,158,882. Aerials. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 11 Nov., 1966 [26 Nov., 1965], No. 50479/65. Heading H4A. An aerial comprises a reflector constituted by metallized fibreglass panels 1 supported on the front surface of an inflatable backing structure 2 which is made up of a number of intercommunicating cells of circular cross-sections whose axes extend as circular arcs about a rotational axis 3. The panels 1 are two-dimensionally curved and are held in their correct positions by means of stems (4), Fig. 2 (not shown), with universal joints (6), which extend from the structure (2). A box-shaped part 7, Fig. 1, serves as an anchorage for the structure 2 and as a container for it when deflated. A part 8 extends from the part 7 towards the axis 3, and a further extension 9 carries a primary feed unit 10. Wall portions 11 of the part 7 may be folded down on hinges 12 out of the way of radiation. Nylon guy ropes 13 may be provided between the structure 2 and the base.
