Abstract
1,158,881. Teaching apparatus. PENNANT DISPLAY & ENG. Ltd. 13 Oct., 1966 [20 Oct., 1965], No. 44356/65. Heading G5G. Apparatus for indicating the answers given by a plurality of pupils to a Ballard-type question, comprises a teacher's unit and a plurality of pupil units, each pupil unit having switch means arranged to provide a plurality of switching positions or selections corresponding to the number of possible answers to a question, and the teacher's unit having a multi-selector switch with at least the same number of switching positions, and a displaying section in the teacher's unit having at least one display unit for each pupil, the teacher's and pupils' units being so arranged that when the selected switching position or selection of any one pupil's switch means conforms to the selected switching position of the teacher's selection switch, the appropriate display unit on the teacher's unit is energized. The apparatus, as illustrated, comprises a teacher's unit 10 having a "correct" answer selection switch 12 and a display panel for displaying the answers selected by twelve pupils, and pupil units 15 (only one being shown) each having four push buttons 16-19 corresponding to four possible answers to a presented question and "correct" or "incorrect" indicating lamps 20, 21. Upon switch 12 being moved to indicate the correct answer a lamp beneath A, B, C or D on the panel is illuminated, and upon each pupil depressing one or more buttons and one or more lamps beneath the corresponding blank portions of the display panel will be illuminated. In another embodiment, for use with a larger class of pupils, there is only one blank space for each pupil which is illuminated if the pupil selects the correct answer and the embodiment includes an automatic switching circuit or mechanism which de-energizes all the buttons or each pupil unit after one button has been pressed. In a further embodiment, the four push-buttons are replaced by a four-position switch and the teacher unit includes a master switch which de-energizes all the pupil units until each pupil has made a choice. The teacher unit may include counting units which record the total number of correct or incorrect answers given by individual students or by the whole class.
