Abstract

1,158,511. Screw mixers. FRANCIS SHAW & CO. (MANCHESTER) Ltd. 14 Feb., 1968 [6 March, 1967], No. 10424/67. Heading B1C. [Also in Division B5] A mixer or extender has a pair of intermeshing screws 9, 10, the screw 9 being mounted in a thrust bearing 21 at the end of the chamber 5 while the screw 10 is mounted in a thrust bearing 22 at the other end of the chamber. The screws are additionally journalled in bearings in the end wall of the chamber nearest the feed hopper 7. They may be rotated in the same or opposite senses by a prime mover 11 through bevel and worm gearing 12, 15 and 19, 20 and an epicyclic gear 13 which is adjustable manually at 16 or by power to vary the rates of rotation and hence the clearance between the screws. The apparatus discharges through a die head 6.
