Abstract

1,158,030. Ascorbic acid derivatives. MERCK & CO. Inc. 4 Sept., 1967 [13 Sept., 1966], No. 40279/67. Heading C2V. Ascorbic acid, or an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or magnesium salt thereof, is reacted with a phosphorylating agent, and the reaction mixture quenched with water and then reacted with an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or magnesium base to obtain ascorbyl phosphate or an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or magnesium salt thereof. The amount of base used determines whether ascorbyl phosphate or the mono-, di- or -tri-metal salt is obtained. The mono- and di-metal salts also may be obtained by adding suitable amounts-of acid to the tri-metal salt or by adding suitable amounts of base to ascorbyl phosphate. The phosphorylating agent may be phosphoryl chloride or bromide, phosphoric acid, chloro- or bromo-phosphoric acid, dichloro-phosphoric acid, pyrophosphoryl chloride or bromide or polyphosphoric acid. Examples are given.
