Abstract
1,157,210. Temperature control in spacecraft. NATIONAL AERONAUTICS & SPACE ADMINISTRATION. 8 Aug., 1967, No. 36407/67. Heading F4U. [Also in Divisions G3, H2 and H4] The temperature of an enclosure subjected to solar radiation, e.g. a spacecraft, is maintained manually within a limited range or automatically at a predetermined value by forming part or all of the enclosure from panels whose ratio of solar radiation absorptivity (a s ) to low temperature thermal emissivity (e) is altered by the application or removal of electrical potential to the panels. The ratio change is effected by employing panel materials exhibiting a semiconductivity, photo-voltaic or electro-optical polarization effect.
