Abstract
1,156,834. Monoepoxybutadiene. SOC. NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. 16 Aug., 1966 [22 Sept., 1965], No. 36652/66. Heading C2C. Monoepoxybutadiene is prepared and purified by mixing butadiene and a peracid with a fractionating agent comprising an alkyl carboxylic ester having a boiling point above 100‹ C. which is a solvent for, is inert to, and does not form azeotropic mixtures with, both the reactants and the products, neutralizing the product reaction mixture with a concentrated solution of an alkali or alkaline earth metal base, distilling the neutralized organic phase in two stages, the first stage comprising simple distillation by means of which a fraction rich in epoxybutadiene is collected, and the second stage comprising redistillation by means of which the fraction boiling between 68‹ and 70‹ C. is collected, consisting of substantially pure monoepoxy butadiene, and recycling the ester solvent and the unreacted material.
