In a process for electro-coating aluminium and its alloys, the coating has a solvent applied thereto prior to curing. The coating may comprise a water-soluble resin, e.g. water-soluble phenolicalkyd resin. The solvent applied thereto may comprise ethylene glycol mono butyl ether, ethylene glycol dibutyl ether or ethylene glycol mono butyl ether acetate, the solvent being applied by immersion of the article therein, or by spraying.
