Abstract

1,155,540. Edge connectors. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 9 Nov., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 51069/67. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] Test jacks on a distribution frame employ edge connectors. Sockets, comprised by the spaces between insulating separators 26 and containing sets of five contacts 37 in the housing of a terminal mounting strip 25 of insulating material, co-operate with plugs comprised by miniature printed circuit boards 24. Each of the contacts 37, with a terminal portion such as 27, 28, projecting in alternately high and low positions from the rear of the contact strip, comprise opposed contact portions pressed towards one another by a stirrup shaped spring 38. Grooves in the sides of adjacent separators 26 mount a plug 24 which is slidable in the grooves between two positions defined by a latching tooth (not shown) engaging either one of apertures 30, 31 in the plug. In its retracted position the plug provides connections between two pairs of terminals by means of the broad printed areas a<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>1</SP>. In its inserted position the plug connects each of the five associated terminals separately to a printed strip on each side of the plug, a female connector engaged over the free end of the plug being employed to couple the terminals, by way of the individual printed strips, to test equipment.
