Abstract

1,155,485. Preserving crops and animal feeds. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 18 Aug., 1967 [15 Sept., 1966], No. 38203/67. Headings A2B, A2D and A2Q. A method of preventing the growth of mould in crops or animal feedstuffs comprises treating the crop with a mould inhibiting quantity (e.g. 0.1 to 10% by weight) of propionic acid. The acid may be used in the form of an aqueous solution. The crop or feedstuff may be wheat, oats, rye, hay, maize, fishmeal, groundnuts, soya beans, sunflower seed, rape seed, rice and tick beans. The crops may be treated immediately after harvesting, in an auger.
