Abstract

1,154,796. Ceramic valve seat members. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD SANITARY CORP. 31 Jan., 1967 [22 March, 1966], No. 4575/67. Heading C1J. [Also in Division F2] A ceramic valve seat member is of composition 95-100% by wt. Al 2 0 3 , 0-3% talc and 0-3 % kaolin and has parallel faces of which one is unfinished and the second has a finish of less than 10 r.m.s. and a flatness of less than 3 light bands of helium light. The member is made by milling the mixture of Al 2 O 3 , talc and kaolin with a binder, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, spray drying, screen classifying the dry mix, shaping it under a pressure of 10,000-20,000 p.s.i., sintering, and finishing one face of the sintered shape as specified above. The preferred composition is 96% Al 2 O 3 , 2% talc, 2% kaolin.
