Abstract

Saddles.-Cycle and like saddle tops are made from composite or laminated material consisting of canvas or other fabric coated on both sides with rubber, the upper and under rubber layers being differently hardened by the vulcanizing treatment. The upper rubber layer may have such a proportion of vulcanizing-substance that vulcanization produces upon it a smooth and well finished surface. The mixing of the under layer, on the other hand, may be such that the heat treatment during the shaping or production of the top causes the under layer to be vulcanized to a harder degree than the upper layer. The hard under layer may be of uniform thickness: or it may be thicker in the middle than at the sides. The fabric layer or layers may also be of a coarse or open-woven character, so that part of the rubber of the outer layers may be forced into the fabric under the blocking pressure. The top may be strengthened by vulcanizing pieces of fabric to the underside with extra pieces at the peak and cantle parts. Specification 1059/15 is referred to.
