A substantially rectilinear aerial is provided with heavy capacitive top loading which is defined as being such that the ratio of the projected area of the loading member or members to the cross-sectional area of the aerial element exceeds 50:1 or the said projected area in square inches exceeds the aerial height or length in inches by at least 25%. The invention may be applied to monopoles or to dipoles and end- or centre-feeding arrangements are described.
