Abstract

1,153,717. Separating Pt, Au, Pd and Rh. TECHNION RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION Ltd. 24 June, 1966 [29 June, 1965], No. 28475/66. Heading C1A. The noble metals, Pt, Au, Pd and Rh are separated, particularly from the base metals e.g. Zn, Cu, NiPb and Fe, by forming a solution of the material containing the various metals and contacting this solution with an ion exchange resin which comprises a chloromethylated styrene-divinyl benzene resin in which thiourea has been incorporated e.g. by refluxing the resin with a solution of thiourea. The metal containing solution may be passed through the resin which preferentially chelates with and absorbs the noble metals and permits the base metals to pass through. The absorbed metals may be obtained by a standard elution technique using an acid or a complexing agent to form a solution of the metal or the resin may be roasted to obtain the noble metals in pure metallic form. The specification exemplifies the separation and production of pure metallic platinum.
