Abstract

1,153,229. Indicators for switches. STOW ELECTRONICS Ltd. 6 Feb., 1968 [6 Feb., 1967], No. 5648/67. Heading H1N. An indicating multi-position rotary switch has a switch position indicating wheel 3 visible through a window 2 in the switch body 1, and a curved light guide 7 comprised of a continuous piece of transparent material which conducts light by means of internal reflection within itself around the wheel 3 from a lamp 14 situated at the rear of the switch, the conducted light 17, 18 being thrown on to and distributed over the portion of the wheel periphery visible through window 2. Indicating wheel 3 carries markings indicating the switch position, is operated by a thumb wheel which operates the switch and is transparent with the markings on the inner circumference. In a modification, the light guide 7 is continuous by window 2 instead of being gapped, and an angled notch is provided on the inner periphery of the guide at the point where the light enters the guide to provide internal reflectors to utilize to the maximum the light entering the guide, and the markings on the indicating wheel preferably have a raised form such as by indentations in the surface on the inner or outer face of the wheel.
