Abstract

1,153,187. Perfluorotertiary-alkyl ethers and epoxy-ethers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 June, 1967 [18 July, 1966; 26 July, 1966], Nos. 32167/66 and 33612/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] Novel ethers and epoxy-ethers of the formula ROCR f <SP>1</SP>R f <SP>11</SP>R f <SP>111</SP> wherein R is a hydrocarbyl or epoxyhydrocarbyl group containing 3 or more carbon atoms and the R f groups are perfluoroalkyl groups, are obtained by reacting halogenated hydrocarbons or epoxides with t-perfluoroalkoxides. Allyl ethers of the above formula are useful as surface-active agents and epoxy. ethers of the above formula may be polymerized to give thermally stable fluids and greases useful for rendering surfaces oil and water repellent.
