Abstract

1,152,436. A.C. generators. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 3 Nov., 1966 [4 Aug., 1965], No. 33396/65. Heading H2A. In an A.C. generator whose magnetizing current is produced by capacitive reactance C 1 . . . C 3 in a path across the stator winding G 1 . . . G 3 , the output voltage is controlled by connecting in such path a switch S 1 . . . S 3 controlled by means L 1 . . . L 3 to which is applied a control signal which causes the switch to open and close repeatedly. Alternatively to the arrangement shown, the generator may be single phase and the switch of an electronic, e.g. S.C.R. type. The generator may supply through a rectifier 4 a D.C. output whose voltage is externally controlled to a constant value by a variable resistor R 4 . The generator may be of the induction type having a squirrelcage rotor of synchronous type having a magnetically anisotropic rotor without D.C. excitation. The stator winding to which the capacitive reactance is connected may be the A.C. output or a separate excitation winding, or the two may be auto-transformer connected together.
