Abstract
1,151,955. Dishwashing machines. G. S. BLAKESLEE & CO. 18 Aug., 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 38236/67. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions B2 and B8] A dishwashing machine comprises a housing 2, Fig. 8, having a track for supporting articles to be washed, e.g. consisting of rails 34 supporting rollers 177 of an endless chain conveyer, and a pump 103 for directing washing liquid from a sump 104 through a riser 74 extending up one side of the housing to an upper and a lower spray box 56, 46 for directing washing liquid on to the articles from above and below. The spray boxes 46, 56 are rectangular in plan view and have projecting therefrom three rows of plastics spray nozzles 53 having discharges slots disposed lengthwise of the box 46 or 56 in the outer rows, and slightly inclined to the lengthwise direction in the middle row. Perforated scrap retaining strainer trays 44 (Fig. 9, not shown) are disposed at the sides of the lower spray box 46; and both spray boxes 46, 56 are removably mounted in the machine. The door 15 of the machine housing is opened by sliding it upwardly, and be held in a partly open position by a latch 97 to enable the trays 44 to be removed and cleaned. The conveyer may comprise side chains 175, Fig. 20, connected by cross rods 176 coupled by U-shaped links 179, 180 shaped to receive the edges of the plates to be carried by the conveyer. Other articles to be washed may be carried in openwork baskets placed on the substantially flat upper run of the conveyer. If a plate is not removed at outlet end of the conveyer it actuates trip fingers 147, Fig. 21, to turn cams 129 for actuating, via trip arms 130 and rods 136, switches 143 to stop the conveyer motor. Alternatively if a dish basket is not removed from the conveyer it will actuate a trip yoke 165 to depress the rods 136 to stop the conveyer motor. In another embodiment a dish basket 230, Fig. 12, is passed on rails 34a through the washing chamber by a conveyer comprising pawls 227 pivotally mounted on a bar 197 reciprocated by link mechanism 211, 215, 217, 222 driven by an electric motor 209 via reduction gearing 210. The bar 197 is suspended at its ends in pivoted cradles 187, and it may readily be turned so that it may drive the dish basket in the opposite direction if desired. In an opening in one of the rails 34a is mounted an actuator 234 (Fig. 23, not shown) responsive to the movement of a dishbasket thereover to close a switch to open a solenoid valve to admit rinsing liquid to sprayers disposed at the delivery end of the washing chamber.
