Abstract

A beam of optical energy, such as coherent light from a laser A, is modulated in accordance with input information and focused on to one face of a film carrier E where it causes vaporization of an opaque coating, such as a developed photographic emulsion, to allow the coating at the point of vaporization to be at least -partially transparent to optical energy. Playback may take place simultaneously with recording, by detecting the amount of optical energy transmitted through the film carrier E.
