Abstract

1,150,959. Converting. ELIN-UNION FœR ELEKTRISCHE INDUSTRIES A.G. 4 July, 1967, No. 30690/67. Heading H2F. [Also in Division H3] A non-sinusoidal output inverter, for example for industrial heating, comprises two series circuits each comprising an electronic switch 1, 2 (shown as thyristors), a load winding 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, a D.C. supply 6 and a common capacitor 3. Assuming the capacitor is charged with its lefthand plate positive, firing thyristor 1 causes a half-cycle of oscillation in 3, 4 and the voltage on 3 to be thus reversed. Firing thyristor 2 now applies twice the supply voltage reversely across 1 to extinguish it and as a result of a halfcycle of oscillation in 3 and 4<SP>1</SP> the voltage across the capacitor is restored to its original polarity. The polarity of the windings is such that the output has the waveform shown- Fig. 4. An inductive load 5 may be connected in series with a further impedance 7 or may be a centre tapped inductor which itself may constitute the winding 4, 5. A second pair of thyristors 9, 10 and a second capacitor 11 may be connected similarly across the windings 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, the thyristors being in bridge configuration with diagonally opposite ones being fired in succession. The output may be controlled by controlling the D.C. supply voltage or by omitting firing pulses.
