Abstract

1,150,837. Dry cleaning composition. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 28 June, 1967, No. 29887/67. Heading C5D. A method of cleaning fibrous materials comprises treating said materials with a halogenated organic solvent dry-cleaning system containing 0À1-8% by weight of the total solvent content of a G 1-6 alkanedione or a cycloalkanedione having one or more C 1-4 alkyl substituents. Examples of diones used are acetylacetone, 2,3- butanedione, 2,4 - pentanedione, 2,5 - hexanedione and 5,5 - dimethyl - 1,3 - cyclohexanedione. The addition of such diones inhibits deposition of polyvalent metal ions from a solvent system on to fibrous materials being cleaned therein.
