Abstract
1,150,810. Coating apparatus. PIPE LININGS, Inc. 28 June, 1967, No. 29827/67. Heading B2L. A pipe is lined by conveying at least two ingredients, adapted to harden rapidly when mixed, in separate conduits to the position within the pipe where the material is to be applied, mixing the ingredients at said position, and immediately thereafter applying the resulting material to the interior of the pipe. Coating apparatus comprises a body 13 which is attached by an eyelet 12 to a winch-driven cable and centered by spring fingers 17 in a pipe 11, and is rigid with a motor 14 driving a shaft 20 via a reduction gear unit 15. Shaft 20 is keyed to an extension shaft 23 journalled in a bearing 25 carried by a housing 18 having a screwed connection 19 with unit 15. Coating ingredients are conveyed to housing 18 by pipes 35, 36, and are mixed in housing 18 and an extension 30 thereof by a helical valve 31 rigid with shaft 23 and formed with slots 32. The mixed material passes through apertures 39 in extension 30 into the space between a flared ring 40 rigid with extension 30 and a flared member 44 connected by a ball and socket joint 46 to extension 30. Ring 40 is rigid with a resilient annular member 41 engaging the inner surface of pipe 11. Trailing from member 44 are a plurality of overlapping sheet metal leaves 48 which define a frustro-conical section 49 adapted to spread the lining material to the desired coating thickness. Leaves 48 are flexibly connected to member 44 by bolts 50 and springs 51, and are biased outwardly by a circular spiral spring 53, outward movement being limited by rings 56 connected to eyes 57 on adjacent leaves. In a modification, mixed maerial passes into a heated housing rigid with shaft 23, and is discharged therefrom by centrifugal force through apertures formed radially in said housing.
