Abstract

114,919. Porter, J. R. May 9, 1917. Aerial machines without aerostats; steering.- Relates to aeronautical machines of the helicopter type and particularly to machines having upper and lower propellers which rotate in opposite directions, and consists in an improved construction of propellers and means for turning and controlling them. Viewed in plan, the blade of the propeller is annular. The upper propeller has two or three blades while the lower propeller has three or four blades. The two propellers are preferably driven by sun and planet gear in the manner described in Specificaticn 106,888. A hand brake n is arranged so that by braking the guided belt s, the rotation of the annular toothed wheel m and the lower propeller is retarded. By means of this belt and brake the pilot.may cause the machine to turn on its own axis. ,
