Abstract
1,148,818. Storing synthetic resin in portable containers. DAIKIN KOGYO K.K. 15 Nov., 1967 [16 Nov., 1966], No. 51967/67. Headings B8C and B8D. The invention is based on the discovery that discoloration in mouldings from fluorine-containing resin results from storing the resin in containers of polyethylene, polypropylene or polyvinylchloride. The invention overcomes this by providing a layer of another polymer, from a specified list, between the container and the resin powder. The layer may be in the form of a coating on the inside of the container or of a bag enclosed within the container. The protecting layer can be any of: polyvinyl alcohol, a polyester, polyvinylidene chloride, a copolymer of vinylidene chloride and vinyl chloride containing at least 75 wt. per cent vinylidene chloride, a copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride containing 5 to 60 wt. per cent vinyl acetate, a copolymer of vinyl ester of a higher aliphatic carboxylic acid of 10 to 20 carbon atoms and vinyl chloride containing 1 to 10 wt. per cent of said vinyl ester, and a copolymer of a higher alkyl (C 10 to C 20 ) vinyl ether and vinyl chloride containing 1 to 10 wt. per cent of said ether. Preferred polyesters are condensation products of dibasic acids, such as terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and phthalic anhydride, and glycols, such as ethylene glycol, propylene glycol. The resins to be packed have melting points of more than 200‹ C. and include polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, tetrafluoroethylene - hexafluoropropylene copolymer and tetrafluoroethylene - vinyl fluoride copolymer.
