Abstract
1,147,433. Pulp. DEFIBRATOR A.B. 1 April, 1966 [2 April, 1965], No. 14562/66. Heading D2W. Pulp is made from lignocellulose-containing material by impregnating with a solution of magnesium hydrogen sulphite, thereafter heating under pressure to above 100‹C and mixing with a water-soluble alkaline nitrogen compound, the material then being mechanically defibred and beaten. The solution may also contain ammonium hydrogen sulphate and/or free SO 2 , e.g. a recirculated waste liquor regenerated with magnesium hydrogen sulphite, ammonium hydrogen sulphite and SO 2 . The basic nitrogen compound may be ammonium hydroxide, an amine or amide (urea) or an acid salt of these, e.g. with carbonic, sulphurous or acetic acid. Impregnation conducted can be at reduced, normal or elevated pressures and normal or elevated temperatures in the liquid or steam phase with a ratio of dry material: liquid of greater than 1:4. The initial material may be steamed prior to impregnation.
