Abstract

1,146,467. Lead phosphite. ELECTROCHEMISCHE. WERKE MUNCHEN A.G. 23 March, 1966 [31 March, 1965], No. 12864/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C3] Leadphosphite suitable to stabilize polyvinyl chloride is produced from a lead compound and the phosphorous acid by-product of the reaction of phosphorus trichloride with a fatty acid at 50‹ to 70‹ C. The preferred lead compound is a suspension of lead monoxide in acetic acid, in excess so that basic lead phosphite is produced. Residual HCl may be removed from the crude phosphorous acid by a countercurrent flow of an inert gas at 45‹ to 70‹ C. The fatty acid is preferably an aliphatic carboxylic acid with from 8 to 16 C atoms. According to an example the phosphorous acid contained 2À0% lauric acid impurity.
