Abstract

1,146,197. Rotary disc filter. IMPROVED MACHINERY Inc. 3 Nov., 1967 [31 Jan., 1967], No. 50121/67. Heading BID. In a rotary disc filter in which the discs are mounted on a horizontal, hollow shaft and partly immersed in suspension to be filtered, each disc comprises a series of sectors defined by walls which are inclined to radial planes, these walls assuming the horizontal position above the shaft axis on the downward moving parts of the discs, and liquid curtains are directed on to the discs at this point by spray tubes 16, 17 and blades 15. The liquid penetrates screens 8 and creates positive pressure behind them, blowing filter cake 20 from the screens into shoot 6. Each disc is either made up of separate sectors or is divided into sectors by the walls. Screens 8 are supported by ribs 9 to define filtrate compartments 10 on each side of each disc. Vacuum is applied to each sector in its immersed position and released before it reaches the blade.
