Abstract
1,145,847. Dyestuffs containing two reactive groups. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Oct., 1966 [27 Oct., 1965], No. 45501/65. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-soluble dyestuffs of the formula wherein D represents a dyestuff radical, the group -N- being attached to a carbon atom R thereof; R represents H, or an aliphatic or araliphatic radical; X represents -SO 2 - or - CO-; Y represents a carboxylic acyl radical or heterocyclic nucleus containing at least one atom or group capable of reacting with the OH group of the cellulose molecule. The benzene ring A may contain further substituents and n is an integer. They may be obtained by reacting a dyestuff of the above formula in which both Y's are replaced by hydrogen atoms with a carboxylic acid anhydride or acid halide of a carboxylic acid or a halogeno-heterocyclic compound. Specified dyestuff residues for D are azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine and/or nitro dyestuff residues, including metal-free and metal-complex dyestuffs. The azo dyestuffs may alternatively be obtained by coupling a diazo component with a coupling component wherein either or both components contain the characteristic grouping. Further, the dyes containing at least one 2-halogeno-s-triazin-4-yl radical in which the 6-carbon atom bears an amino or substituted amino group may be obtained by reacting the corresponding dyestuff containing at least one 2,6-dehalogeno-striazin-4-yl radical with NH 3 or a primary or secondary amine. Examples are given for the production of the dyes including one where an anthraquinone dye containing a chlorotriazine residue is further reacted with phenol-4- sulphonic acid or sodium diethyldithiocarbamate. The dyes are particularly suitable for dyeing cellulose textile materials. The dyes used in the first method above (i.e. those in which both Y's are replaced by hydrogen) are obtained by reacting a water-soluble dyestuff containing at least one -NHR group with a compound of the formula wherein Z is a halogen atom and B is an acylated amino group or NO 2 , the resulting compound then being converted by hydrolysis of the acylated amino group or by reduction of the NO 2 to the corresponding amino compound.
