A device which simulates a screw-and-nut mechanism of varying helix angle comprises a pair of plates 10, 11 spaced apart by a plurality of rods 12, the ends of which are connected to the plates respectively by universal joints. The plate 10 is secured to a shaft 14, and the plate 11 is adapted to slide on the shaft 14. Coiled tension springs may be provided to prevent separation of the ends of the rods from the plates.
