Abstract

1,145,531. Hydrostatic transmissions. HYDRAULIC DRILLING EQUIPMENT Ltd. 14 March, 1967 [14 March, 1966], No. 11149/66. Heading F2C. [Also in Division E1] An hydraulic supply system for powering an earth drilling unit comprises a main circuit with a high capacity pump supplying one or more high capacity power output units and a secondary circuit with a low capacity pump supplying one or more low-power output units, the circuits being interconnectable to supplement the capacity of at least one of them. As shown a prime mover 1 drives main, auxiliary and secondary pumps 2, 3, 4, the pump 3 serving to charge the main pump 2 and to power its displacement control 6 through a valve 7, the secondary pump 4 being of small fixed displacement. The main pump 2 is connected through valves 10, 11 with motors 13, 14, preferably of the radial piston type, for driving a winch and the drill bit respectively. The secondary pump 4 is connected through valves 23, 24 with a break-out jack 25 and hoist/feed jacks 26, and through further valves 30 . . . 33 with rams 34 . . . 37 for mast raising and for the front and rear jacks. It may also operate a sandline winch 40 and a cathead motor 41. A valve 12 associated with the main valves 10, 11 controls a cross-connection from the main pump 2 to the supply line for the hoist/feed jacks 26, to augment the delivery from the secondary pump 4 when required.
