Abstract

1,145,350. Grinding. J. & S. WYLDE Ltd. 19 Dec., 1967, No. 57573/67. Heading B3D. An overlay for the grinding surface of a tool for grinding optical lens blanks comprises a piece 18 of expanded metal having an adhesive coating on one side and having a single slot 20 extending from the central portion of the piece to the edge. The overlay may be fitted on a head for grinding convex or concave surfaces and be of aluminium or aluminium alloy. The overlay is preferably circular, elliptical or rectangular with rounded corners and the slot widens towards the edge. The adhesive may be protected prior to use by a paper covering which is peeled off when the overlay is fitted to the grinding head, the overlay being hammered or pressed into conformity with the head.
