Abstract

1,145,050. Spraying apparatus. F. A. HUGHES & CO. Ltd. 19 Feb., 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 5013/67. Heading B2F. A liquid spraying apparatus comprises a spray head wherein a liquid and gas supplied under pressure are mixed and the liquid dispersed therefrom as a spray, a pump and a compressor having a common drive shaft, the pump being adapted to supply the liquid to the head at flow rates that can be varied within predetermined limits and both the pump and compressor being capable of supplying the liquid and gas at a sufficient pressure to cause the liquid to be dispensed as a spray. The common drive shaft is preferably a shaft extending laterally from either side of a common drive means such that the pump and compressor may be coupled to either end of the shaft. The pump may be a piston pump wherein the linear reciprocatory movement .of the piston in the cylinder may be infinitely varied within predetermined limits. The compressor may be a diaphragm pump. A conduit system is provided whereby the liquid and gas can be supplied to the spray head from the pump and compressor, and this system may be provided with a gas pressure regulating valve means to regulate the pressure of the gas supplied to the spray head, and the system may also be provided with a .pressure .relief valve for preventing the pressure of the liquid at the spray head and in the system from exceeding a predetermined value. The spray head has several gas outlets surrounding a central liquid outlet to produce a cone-shaped discharge.
