Abstract

1,145,020. Piston packing. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 7 July, 1966 [3 Sept., 1965], No. 37733/65. Heading F2T. Cup packing 12 for a piston 10 comprises a cup seal 13 whose lip 13a is urged against the cylinder wall 11 by a spreader 14 of elastomeric material, e.g. synthetic rubber, which, in its free state, is a flat disc having an outer diameter substantially equal to the cylinder bore and when assembled, is resiliently deformed within the cup seal 13 with its periphery engaging the lip 13a by clamping its central portion against the bottom of the cup seal by a metal retaining washer 15.
