Abstract

1,144,709. Toothed gearing. GENERAL INSTRUMENT CORP. 17 Oct., 1967, No. 47330/67. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division H3] The Specification describes a clutch for disconnecting the manual tuning of a radio receiver when a push-button is pressed in (see Division H3). A tuning knob on shaft 110 rotates a pinion 112 to turn a crown-wheel 114 which via a friction disc 124 drives a clutch disc 126 on a shaft 116 inside a fixed sleeve 128. The shaft 116 carries a pinion 118 meshing with a gear segment 120 on the tuning shaft. When a button is pressed in, the far end of slide 42 or 44 engages a cam surface 138 to urge a plate 132 to the left against a spring (134 in Fig. 5, not shown). This moves a bushing 130 to pull the crownwheel 114 away from the friction disc and disengage the manual tuning drive. Backlash is prevented by making the gear segment 120 in split form with compression springs (124 in Fig.3, not shown) and by arranging for a plate 142 to press the pinion 112 into engagement with the crown-wheel 114.
