Abstract

1,144,600. Diagnostic device for glucose. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. 29 July, 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 34254/66. Heading B1X. A diagnostic device for testing for glucose, e.g. in body fluids, comprises a bibulous material impregnated with the dried residue of a solution comprising a solution of glucose oxidase, a peroxidative substance, an indicator oxidised by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of the peroxidative substance (e.g. orthotolidine dihydrochloride), an inert buffer (e.g: citric acid, sodium citrate) maintaining the pH of the liquid mixture at 4-6, polyvinylpyrrolidone, a vinyl ether/maleic anhydride interpolymer in acid or half-ester form and a long-chain polymer of 3:6-anhydro-D-Galactose and sulphated D-galactose residues, and, if desired, an inert wetting agent (e.g. sodium lauroyl sarcosinate). In addition to peroxidase, e.g. from horseradish or potato, there may be used as peroxidative substance, whole blood, red blood cells, lyophilised whole blood, iodide/molybdate mixtures, urohemin and other porphyrins, iron sulphocyanate, iron tannate, ferrous ferrocyanide and potassium chromic sulphate.
