Abstract

1,144,114. Vehicle washing apparatus. CALIFORNIA CAR WASH SYSTEMS Inc. 22 May, 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 23598/67. Heading B7J. The apparatus includes side and roof brushes, Figs. 1 and 9 (not shown), and additional cabinets which house window cleaning brushes, Figs. 2, 3 and 4. Each brush is mounted in an inclined frame 31 pivotable about vertical bearings 48, 49, and is rotated as the arm is swung by an electric motor 60 and chain and sprockets. The frame is moved by a piston 74 and cylinder 71 and detergent or soap sprays 80 are directed towards the brush and operated by an arm (149), Fig. 6 (not shown), which arm is controlled by a cam (152) during movement of the brush frame. As the vehicle moves through the complete washing apparatus the window brushes and their frames are not operated until an arm or feeler from the apparatus touches the windscreen, and the brushes are automatically swung back into their cabinets when the arm drops behind the rear window.
