Abstract
1,144,091. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems; automatic control systems. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Jan. 16, 1967 [Jan. 17, 1966; Dec. 30, 1966], No. 2144/67. Headings G3P and G3R. A flow control system for granular material comprises a perforated container 1 which receives the material from a store 17 via valve 15 and shoot 19, the container being supported on knifeedges 27 suspended via universal coupling 25 from a diaphragm 22 forming part of a weighing unit 6. A pneumatic transducer 8 supplies an electric signal to a recorder 11, the latter being coupled to a relay 12 which controls valve 15 via regulator 13. By maintaining a constant level (i.e. weight) in container 1, the flow through the helical array of holes in the latter is kept constant. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the weighing unit is omitted and the level in the container is controlled by a detector (33) slidable vertically in the container. This detector may be optical (photo-electric or a gammagraphy unit), ultrasonic or a capacitance unit. An electromagnetic vibrator (31, 32) supports the container.
