A pipe coupling for connecting stainless steel pipes or a pipe to another fitting such as a blanking off cap, comprises coupling parts 1 and 2, each having an annular joint face 3 for cooperation with the joint face of the other member and an external flange 5 extending outwardly and rearwardly from the joint face, and a channel-section clamping ring 6 embracing said flanges, said ring exerting a radial force on the remote ends of the flanges to deflect them radially inwards whilst constraining movement of said flanges in opposed axial directions so that the joint faces are forced axially towards each other. Pipe ends may be welded into each coupling part. The flanges are of general frustoconical shape and preferably extend at 20 degrees to the pipe axis, opposite flange surfaces being parallel, convergent, convex, or concave. The flanges may also be continuous or discontinuous. The clamping ring comprises a series of arcuate U-section members 7 spot-welded to a flexible metal strap 8, the ends of which are bent back to hold co-operating T-shape bolt and a T-shaped bolt receiving member, Figs. 2-4 (not shown). Alternatively a clamping ring having a toggle fastening may be used. A gasket may be interposed between the joint faces or, an 0- ring seal may be seated in a recess in one or both joint faces.
