Abstract

1,143,302. Boots &c. G. PISARONI. 10 Jan., 1967 [11 Jan., 1966; 8 June, 1966], No. 1226/67. Heading A3B. A machine for pressing and roughing a shoe bottom and for ironing the upper includes a shoe supporting assembly 20, a tool supporting assembly 21 and an ironing unit 21. The shoe supporting assembly 20 is mounted on a lever 23 which is pivoted to the machine frame 16 at 17 and which can be oscillated by piston and cylinder 25. A U-shaped member 29 is vertically pivoted to the lever 23 and can be rotated through 180 degrees to present either the toe or heel to the flattening-roughing tool 53 by means of a pinion 27<SP>1</SP> on the pivot 27 and a rack 27<SP>11</SP> operated by piston and cylinder 28. The rearward arm 29<SP>11</SP> of the U-shaped member 29 carries a toe pad 43 which can be adjusted lengthwise along rack 36<SP>1</SP> and heightwise along ratchet 40<SP>1</SP>, the toe pad 43 being carried by cylindrical bearing blocks so that it can tilt lengthwise and transversely of the machine. The rear arm 29<SP>1</SP> carries a block 30 pivoted to the arm 29<SP>1</SP> at 30<SP>1</SP> and on which is pivotally mounted a last pin 32. The block 30 is connected by a link 33 and bell cranks 34 to piston and cylinders 35, operation of the cylinders 35 causing the toe of the shoe C to be pressed again the toe pad 43 to lock the shoe C on the support. The flattening-roughing tool 53 is carried by a plate 78 which is pivoted at 75 to a bar 48 which in turn is connected by a double pivot 47<SP>1</SP>, 45 to the machine frame, thus allowing the tool complete freedom of movement. The tool is biased towards a central position by springs 51 and by pressers 84, 81. The tool 53 is operated by a motor M and is lowered into operative position by operation of a cylinder 50. The tool 53 consists of a hyperboloid shaped roller (Fig. 3) having helical ribs 61 which roughen the lasting margin and tend to wipe the lasting margin inwardly of the shoe bottom. The machine has an automatic control circuit and operates as follows: a shoe C is placed on the last pin 32 and the cylinders 35 are operated to lock the shoe in position. The tool 53 is then lowered to operative position by cylinder 50 and the shoe is reciprocated beneath the tool 53 by cylinder 25. The machine can be set to flatten and roughen the fore-part of the shoe, the heel portion or the whole shoe bottom, this last operation being performed in two stages, the shoe support being rotated through 180 degrees by rack 27<SP>11</SP> and pinion 27<SP>1</SP> between the stages. The ironing unit 22 has two heated irons 65, 66 which are vibrated by a vibrator unit 63 operated by a motor M<SP>1</SP>. The tools are trapezoidal in shape, the tool 65 having a concave surface and the tool 66 having a convex surface so that the tools 65, 66 can operate over all parts of the shoe upper.
