Abstract

1,142,857. Valves; shaft seals. I.V. PRESSURE CONTROLLERS Ltd. 27 June, 1966 [3 Aug., 1965], No. 33246/65. Headings F2B and F2V. Seal for shafts or spindles, and applied to a spool valve, comprises an annular web or diaphragm 10 having around each of its inner and outer circumferential edges a portion 11, 12 of increased thickness, each portion having radially outer surfaces on opposite sides of the web which taper as shown in the radially outer direction toward the mean plane of the web. Each portion of increased thickness provides a pair of symmetrical lips which are radiused at their free ends. The seals are located in recesses formed by adjacent body parts 16-18 of the valve, but are not tightly clamped. The seal may be of oil resistant high nitrile rubber.
