Abstract

Systems for continuous-current motors only.- In a system for control of a number of motors driving separate wheels of a vehicle, automatic means de-energize all the motors if one motor becomes de-energized, but the means are rendered inoperative during the transition from series to parallel. The motors M<1>, M<2> are supplied from the generator G, and the contacts of the circuitbreaker CB are included in the circuit. The tripping latch 3 of the circuit breaker is controlled by two coils 1, 2 which neutralize each other when both are energized. When the controller is moved to connect the motors in series the coils 1. 2 are included in series in the circuit. As the controller is moved to make the parallel connexion, the motor M<1> and the coil 1 are short-circuited and the coil 2 is shunted by the resistance 4 so that the circuit-breaker does not open. In the parallel position, the coil 1 is in circuit with the motor M<1> and the coil 2 with the motor M<2>, and any substantial change in the energization of either motor will cause the circuit-breaker to open.
