Abstract

1,141,422. Diuretics. MERCK & CO. Inc. 27 Jan., 1967, No. 4231/67. Heading A5B. Excessive potassium excretion in non-human animals due to the administration of a therapeutic amount of a diuretic selected from:- (B1) [2,3 - dichloro - 4 - (2 - methylene butyryl) phenoxy] acetic acid, [3 - chloro - 4 - (2 - methylenebutyryl) phenoxy] acetic acid, [2,3 - dimethyl - 4 - (2 - methylenebutyryl) phenoxy] acetic acid, [2,3 - dichloro - 4 - (2 - ethylidenebutyryl) phenoxy] acetic acid, [4 - (2 - methylene butyryl) - 1 - naphthyloxy] acetic acid; (B2) hydrochlorothiazide, chlorothiazide, flumethiazide, benzthiazide, cyclopenthiazide, cyclothiazide, trichloromethiazide, 3- benzyl - 6 - trifluoromethyl - 7 - sulphamoyl - 2,3 - dihydro - 1,2,4, - benzothiazine - 1,1 - dioxide, hydroflumethiazide, methyclothiazide, quinethazone, polythiazide, 3 - isobutyl - 6 - chloro - 7 - sulphamoyl - 2, 3 - dihydro - 1,2,4 - benzothiadiazine - 1,1 - dioxide; (B3) 5 - chloro - 2,4 - disulphamoyl - aniline, furosemide, dichlorphenamide, chlorthialidone, acetazolamide, chlorazanil; is overcome by coadministering therewith a potassium-sparing amount of a diuretic selected from (A) (3,5 - diamino - 6 - chloropyrazinoyl) guanidine, (3 - amino - 5 - dimethylamino - 6 - chloropyrazinoyl) guanidine, (3,5 - diamino - 6 - chloropyrazinamido) guanidine. Diuretic and/or saluretic pharmaceutical preparations in unit dosage forms comprise one diuretic selected from B1, B2 or B3 and one from A. The preparations may be administered orally in the form of a capsule, tablet, aqueous or alcoholic suspension or solution.
