Abstract
1,141,260. Hydrofluoric acid. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 16 Nov., 1966 [26 Nov., 1965], No. 51367/66. Heading C1A. Hydrofluoric acid is purified by successively dehydrating it by treatment with fluorine, condensing it and removing uncondensed gases, contacting it with an alkali metal fluoride to form a solid complex, removing the uncombined impurities, and heating the complex to liberate the purified acid. Fluorine is preferably employed in excess. The alkali metal halide is preferably granular sodium fluoride. The complex NaF.HF is preferably decomposed at 280-300‹. A vacuum line apparatus for the above process is described and illustrated.
