Abstract

1,140,970. Polymer compositions. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 5 Dec., 1966 [7 Dec., 1965], No. 54279/66. Heading C3P. Film-forming chain-saturated copolymer compositions comprise 50 to 20,000 parts per million based on the copolymer of an N,N<SP>1</SP>-di- (C 4-22 aliphatic) thiodipropionamide. Specified copolymers are polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene/propylene copolymers, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers and polymers having pendant carboxyl groups cross-linked with metal ions, e.g. of magnesium, zinc or sodium. The compositions may also contain finely divided silica and may be formed into non-blocking films. Many suitable aliphatic substituents are listed and examples describe compositions comprising (I) a cross-linked carboxylic polymer and dihexyl, dioctyl and dilauryl thiodipropionamides, (II) ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers and dibutyl, dipentyl, dihexyl, dioctyl, dilauryl, dioleyl and distearyl thiodipropionamides, and (III) ethylene/propylene copolymers and dibutyl, dihexyl, dioctyl, dilauryl, distearyl and dioleyl thiodipropionamides.
