Abstract
1,140,838. Welded railway joints. KLOCKNER-WERKE A.G. 21 April, 1966 [24 April, 1965], No. 17590/66. Heading E1G. [Also in Division B3] A railway switch frog has a .main portion 1 of austenitic Mn steel for strength and end portions 4, 4' of another steel which unlike the Mn steel is weldable to connecting rails, the portions 4, 4' being connected to. the main portion through transitional .regions 2, 2' produced by compound casting. The austenitic Mn steel is cast into a middle length of the mould while at each end the other steel is poured into the mould and the steels there flow for mixing into a region of a partition system consisting of one or more perforated plates which remain for incorporation in the casting. A single partition would be of corrugated or zig-zag form. The dimensions of the plate perforations or composition of the plates or both are arranged to keep down the Mn and C content of the mixed metal.
