Abstract

1,139,916. Injection moulds. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 Aug., 1966 [6 Sept., 1965], No. 37976/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B6] A book cover comprising a spine (6), hinges (7) and backboards (5) is made in an injection mould comprising at least two spine-defining elements 20, 26 at least one of which can be replaced by an element giving a spine of different breadth. The mould also includes flanking elements 16 which can be adjusted by screws 19 to maintain a standard backboard length. The moulding material is introduced through channels 29 and flows across the line of the hinges. The preferred material is crystalline polypropylene. Alternative materials include polythene, nylon, P.V.C., or crystalline poly-4- methyl-pentene-1 or copolymers of 4-methylpentene-1 with at least one α-olefine containing 5 to 18 carbon atoms. The mould surfaces may be embossed or inset for lettering, or roughened to facilitate subsequent gluing.
